Nuarro Beach Lodge

Nuarro Beach Lodge

Nuarro can be found in an area of pristine beauty, between Pemba and Ilha de Mozambique, at the end of the Nanatha Bay. The lodge prides itself in being built of local materials, in an eco-friendly manner.

Accommodation is in 12 luxury beachfront chalets. 10 of the chalets are also suitable for family accommodation, with an optional twin bed room on the upper storey. Each chalet is some 100 square metres in extent, and has been constructed using traditional technology, allowing for excellent ventilation. Beds are king size, and have a large mosquito net. There is a lounge area, large veranda (complete with hammock) and sun-deck. The en suite facilities include indoor and outdoor showers. The chalet also boasts large doors and windows, allowing for excellent views of the bay and a baobab forest.

The main Lodge building, which is positioned to allow for excellent views, houses reception, and leads on to beach bar and Marine Activity Centre. Walkways lead from the main building to the chalets, or you can choose to walk along the beach.

A panoramic restaurant and cocktail bar is located on the west end of the beach with view to “Nanatha Falcon Rock” and the bay beyond. Fresh seafood and salads are part of the menu, which incorporates both traditional and international cuisine. The restaurant has a sunken lounge area with library where coffee/tea and homemade cakes and cookies are served in the afternoons.

There is a lot on offer at Nuarro. Other than just relaxing on the beach, there is seasonal whale watching, and for the more active: snorkelling, sea kayaking (including trips to the mangroves), and fly fishing. There are also dhow sailing trips on offer, and, for land lubbers, eco trails by foot or mountain bike. In addition, you might enjoy a visit to the local village. Tours to historical Ilha de Mozambique, Nacala Porto and Lúrio Falls can be arranged. Keen birders will enjoy the variety of species on offer.

Diving is a highlight at Nuarro, and there is a fully equipped Marine Centre, and PADI instructors. The direct access to the sea, allied with the closeness of the continental shelf and undiscovered sites make Nuarro a perfect diving location – there is excellent water visibility, easy reef access, and a coral/fish diversity which is truly world class. You can also enjoy night dives, drift dives, and some deep dives. There are also some wrecks to explore in the Baixo do Pinda area, and with underwater cameras available to rent, your dive is guaranteed to be memorable. You don’t have to be an experienced diver, as there are some excellent dives for learners on the home-reef, which has a great diversity of coral.
